Pavel Büchler’s Acting Head (2010) a looped fragment of a found film played on vintage TV presents a head and shoulders shot of the 1970’sSoviet leader Leonid Brezhnev, tapping repeatedly and impatiently on a desk. The tapping, played softly is both hypnotic and disquieting. The work invites us to think about politics, leadership style and consequences. Brezhnev is trapped in the monitor unable to move forward, the sound reinforcing an unease and frustration but also the underlying questions of past histories and legacy.
